TILII Translates – Easy Read Service

TT CroppedTILII members have been producing easy read materials for over 5 years for many different organisations in Northern Ireland.  They are experts by experience and have been supported by Speech & Language Therapists to continually improve their work.  With support from the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, TILII Translates was established in 2019 as a social enterprise.

What does TILII Translates provide?

We provide a professional and efficient Easy Read service to all sectors, as part of our commitment towards improving access to information for all.   There are two options for you to consider:

  • you send us the text you want translating into easy read information
  • you send us your draft easy read document for our approval of accessibility.

What is Easy Read information?

Easy read is for those who are not confident readers.  It is an accessible format that makes written information easier to understand.  Easy read information has:

  • short sentences
  • larger size font (size 14)
  • only one font type
  • supporting images; with
  • jargon-free language.

Why produce Easy Read documents?

Easy Read documents make information more accessible to people with learning disabilities. They can also be useful for people with other communication difficulties including:

  • acquired brain injury
  • dyslexia
  • people who do not speak English as their first language
  • people who find reading difficult
  • people with cognitive impairments such as dementia

Personal & Public Involvement (PPI)

The Health and Social Care Reform Act (NI) 2009 places a statutory legislative requirement on Health & Social Care organisations to involve and consult patients, families, carers and local communities on the planning, delivery and evaluation of services.  Easy read information is one way of making sure people have accessible information.
