Background
- DOH commissioned the creation of a Regional Adult Learning Disability Service Model (2018), following recent strategic developments and reviews. This project must complete by March 2020.
- The collaborative process aims to identify the issues and challenges facing our service, what direction is required to meet service need over the next 10 – 15 years and to create a new Regional Service Model for Learning Disability Services in N. Ireland.
- ARC in partnership with the HSCB, delivered an initial workshop with learning disability providers in August 2019, which reviewed issues that remain to be progressed within the 6 Equal Lives themes. The HSCB assured providers that conversations would continue with a follow up event to be facilitated. This workshop is the follow up.
The project aim is to design a new outcomes based, regionally consistent model for Adult Learning Disability Services that:
- reflects the needs and expectations of individuals and families.
- reduces reliance on hospital services and develops person centred individualised inclusive models of community care that promote equality of access.
- provides a strategic response to the significant challenges currently facing the Adult Learning Disability programme of care.
- outlines a costed Implementation plan for the Model.
At this workshop we will:
- receive an update of progress to date
- be used to double-check the HSCB’s understanding of what we told them at the last workshop
- come equipped with prepared thoughts of potential gaps that exist, possible solutions, and any evidence based best practice services/projects that may support the future
- share these thoughts and examples and correlate to workforce planning
