The Role of the Registered Manager

A Registered Manager is the person in charge of one or more regulated activities and is responsible for enabling and monitoring compliance with the DOH standards and regulations pertaining to their service.

The registered manager will set the operational direction and organise the effective running of the service provision to meet the settings statement of purpose.

This half day course will assist participants to gain a broad awareness of the knowledge and understanding required to comply with:

  • the legal responsibilities of the registered manager
  • the level of accountabilities associated with their role
  • the management and delivery of person centred services and how best to achieve this,
  • the minimum standards required to deliver high quality, safe and effective care services.

All of the course content will reflect the regulations and standards required for competent practice with particular reference to resident’s involvement, admission to your service, care reviews, complaints, protection of money and valuables, management of medicines and infection prevention and control.

By the end of the course learners will:

  • understand their essential role, task and function and how they can best discharge this role have improved clarity regarding the level of accountabilities associated with their role
  • have more knowledge of how to enhance their level of practice, using the regulations and standards
  • understand how best assess the everyday activities, systems and processes within their regulated service, and determine whether their service is well led and the care provided is safe, effective and compassionate.
