Luv to Meet U and Safety Net ran a joint stall raising awareness, giving out information and engaging with the community.
The stall was staffed by people with a learning disability who chatted to those attending the day.
We had a ‘wall’ on which we asked people to write what they thought a Friend was or what a Fake was on a post it note and add this to the wall (photos will follow soon be on the Safety Net website).
Prizes were awarded for the best stalls and this was judged by local TV presenter Christa Ackroyd.
She thought the stand was the ‘Most Interactive’ at the event.
We need to ensure that the events during Learning Disability Week are just as successful. They provide a great opportunity to talk to the local community and raise the awareness of Learning Disability during the week. The Mayor and local MP have been invited to the stall on Russell St on the 25th June and as it is also ‘Armed Forces Day’ in the town it should be busy. Come and support us and lets make sure there are people with a learning disability talking to the general public throughout the week
Many thanks to Paul from Street Angels and Steve from CVAC for their help and support at the event, especially when I had to rush off to watch Fireman Sam at the Victoria Theatre!
