Star Unit

Image: Star-candidatesRecognising exceptional performance

The Star Unit recognises exceptional performance by candidates completing their competence-based qualifications – that is, to build upon the current competence qualification model and differentiate between those candidates who are competent and those who naturally go the extra mile and deliver higher standards and quality in the workplace, having been given the same specification of work – probably the top 5-10% of candidates.

No extra work

  • The Star Unit does not increase the quantity of work candidates complete, or the quantity of assessments carried out.
  • The Star Unit is not extra credit that candidates can achieve towards their qualification.
  • The key is naturally occurring evidence – The Star Unit is recognition of the work candidates are already doing.
  • In essence, the Star Unit seeks to challenge the concept that competent is the ceiling of achievement for candidates completing qualifications.
  • The Star Unit show candidates for the first time, what ‘exceptional’ looks like, and sets the standard for where ‘exceptional’ lies, encouraging those candidates to strive for better things.
