Covering the underpinning knowledge of providing and promoting active support for individuals in health and social care.

This pack covers the underpinning knowledge of providing and promoting active support for individuals in health and social care.

This interactive training package is also available as the one-day Promoting and Providing Active Support Delivered Training Course

The course has been designed to ensure it covers the learning Outcomes of units on the Qualification Credit Framework (QCF).

The units that are covered are:

LD 203 Provide Active Support

LD 303 Promote Active Support

Course information:

This is a distance/ open learning pack which is designed in an easy to follow format with information to read and exercises to help learners relate their learning back to the workplace and help consolidate the knowledge.

Learners work their way through the Promoting and Providing Active Support Distance Learning Pack, reading, doing exercises and gathering information from their workplace on ‘ways of working’ until the pack is complete.

Once the pack has been completed learners are then given the workbook, which is completed then sent for assessment by our appropriately qualified assessors. Once it is assessed they can use this as evidence if they wish to go on to complete the full unit which is is competence based, learners would need their competence assessed in the workplace. The assessed workbook can be used as evidence of their knowledge base.

These packs are specifically designed for organisations that find it difficult to get enough staff together to have a delivered course. Using the Distance Learning packs they can start new staff on their induction as soon as they start and don’t have to wait for available courses or a big enough cohort.

One of the main advantages to the Distance Learning Pack is that the learner can work through the pack at their own pace. Enthusiastic new starters can go though the pack quite quickly, equally those who may find training difficult can take their time to go through the information and re-read things to help the knowledge become established.

Assessment

We have designed workbooks to go with these two units, so that learners can complete their training, answer the questions in the workbook, and have their workbook assessed by our appropriately qualified assessors (in line with QCF guidelines). This enables learners to complete the knowledge component of these units.

On successful completion of the training and workbooks learners can go on to complete the whole unit, by having their performance assessed in their work environment. This can be used towards a qualification such as the Health and Social Care Diploma or as part of a person’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

This pack is for:

The Promoting and Providing Active Support Distance Learning pack is aimed at front line staff or senior staff who are using Active Support or wish to develop the use of Active Support in their workplace. This training can be used to support unit attainment towards their Health and Social Care qualification or for Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

Common Induction Pack for the PA Employer and their new PA to work through together.

Getting Started Together is a specialist Induction Pack designed and written for Personal Assistant Employers and their new Personal Assistant (PA), that meets the Common Induction Standards (CIS) in Health and Social Care.

The Common Induction Standards are the standards that Skills for Care have set for all new workers working in the Health and Social Care sector. Although the standards are not a requirement for the role of the PA at present, we feel that because they are important for all other roles within Health and Social Care they will undoubtedly have value for PAs.

We have made sure that the standards are adapted to the role of the PA, who is usually working one-to-one and often in their employer’s home.

This pack has been designed for the Employer and their PA to work through together.

Pack information:

The pack has been carefully designed so that the employer and employee work through the pack together. There are sections where the employer works alone and others where the PA completes exercises alone, often coming back together to discuss points. This gives both of them the chance to discuss the sections in detail and feel comfortable to raise any concerns or issues they may have.

This pack covers essential areas that working as a PA involves and is divided into the 8 areas of the CIS, these are:

The role of the Personal Assistant

Personal development

Communicating effectively

Equality and inclusion

Introducing duty of care

Principles of safeguarding

Person-centred support

Health and safety

When the employer and their PA have worked their way through the pack, there are some questions at the back of the pack that the Employer can use to check their PA’s knowledge and understanding of the Induction standards. Once the Employer is happy with the PA’s knowledge they can complete the Certificate provided and award it to the PA. This can then be used by the PA as evidence that they have covered the CIS Induction.

Download your FREE toolkit suitable for support workers helping individuals or groups with learning disabilities to understand money.

In 2011 ARC ran a successful project with the Money Advice Service (formerly FSA Financial Services Authority) to develop a toolkit that can help individuals with a learning disability to understand more about money.

The Money Advice Service have an existing resource called ‘On Your Own 2 Feet’, which is a toolkit that was developed in partnership with ‘Fairbridge’ to use when working with young people to help them understand about financial capability.

ARC have used this resource as a base to develop a toolkit that can be used with individuals with a learning disability. The resource was piloted with groups of people with a learning disability then amended until a finished product was designed.

The toolkit is a combination of guidance, exercises and activities that can be carried out with individuals or groups of people with a learning disability. The idea is that you can use the resource and adapt it to meet the specific needs of the people who you are working with.

It is a resource for support workers and youth workers which has some great activities about understanding about money such as:

Learning about how you feel about money

Understanding about how much things cost

Raising awareness of money issues

Attitudes to money

Where money comes from

Learning more about finances in their locality

Learning about essential and non essential spending

Budgeting

Where our money goes

How much can I save?

How much things really cost

Running a place of their own

How to reduce costs

All of the activities have been designed to be interactive and adapted to individual need.
