SHOOTING THE DICE: Supporting People In Uncertain Times

The ARC (NI) Annual Conference was held at The Rural College, Derrynoid, Draperstown BT45 7DW

The ARC (NI) Annual Conference provided one of the few opportunities in Northern Ireland for people from all sectors and settings to come together to explore and address issues of concern in supporting people with a learning disability and their families. This year’s conference was held on Wednesday 19 October and Thursday 20 October 2011 and helped support staff in coping with the uncertainty, which is the context for much of our day to day work.

The conference aims were:

  • To celebrate the ingredients for ensuring that people live better lives in their communities.
  • To learn about effective and creative approaches to developing the workforce of the future.
  • To explore how we deal with real risks in a way that enables people to have real lives.
  • To showcase innovative solutions from the creative use of technology.

Speakers included:

  • “Jedi” Jim Eastwood from the highly successful BBC series, The Apprentice
  • Christine Jendoubi (Director of Mental Health & Learning Disability), DHSSPS
  • Jim Gamble, (former CEO of CEOP) will speak on Social Media Networks and People with a Learning Disability
  • Andrew McDonnell (Director), Studio 3
