The Telling it Like it is (TILII) projects are designed to support groups of men and women with learning disabilities to run training sessions and develop confidence in speaking out about what matters to them.
The TILII projects aim to offer training sessions to decision makers, regulatora, funders and staff across the trust area and focus on the TILII Trainers sharing their views on what they want and need from staff who support them.
The TILII group also encourages and trains people with a learning disability to speak for themselves, at conferences, workshops and other important gatherings.
Latest information on the TILII project:
- There are four different TILII projects; TILII Bangor, TILII Lisburn, TILII Belfast and TILII Muckamore, and these projects have been receiving additional funding each year to carry on the good work that TILII is doing.
- A CD was developed that supports people with a learning disability to give training to new staff but the trainers have found they do not need it. Training for staff by people with a learning disability is now available.
It is expected that funding for this project will continue and more people with a learning disability will become trainers and train their own staff in the best ways to provide support.
It is also hoped that the trainers will hold further training sessions including train the trainer and encourage other people with learning disabilities to train, speak up about their rights, take part in decision-making, influencing policy and attending conferences.
TILII is funded by the South Eastern and Belfast Health and Social Care Trusts.
