Following on from the Making Money Easier Project, Moving On Planning Ahead (MOPA) is designed to help people with a learning disability to plan for their future.
Moving on Planning Ahead materials include information about living independently and what that really means including information about how they can pay for things, the support available to them and any benefits they could be eligible for.
Moving On Planning Ahead pilot sessions were held in May 2009 in Chesterfield, Bristol and London.
These sessions were aimed at people with a learning disability and their supporters.
Moving On Planning Ahead Train the trainer sessions were developed for managers, trainers and/or support staff to help them support individuals with learning disabilities who are thinking about moving on and planning ahead.
The following has been developed in co-operation with United Response:
- The Moving on Planning Ahead Website
- The Easy Read guidance is designed for individuals with a learning disability to work through on their own or with a supporter to help them make decisions about their future.
- Training events, designed for people with a learning disability their supporters and care staff.
- The Trainer’s manual can be used in the organisations that have participated in a Train the Trainer course. They can be used to support people with a learning disability to make to decisions about moving on and planning ahead.
- Those attending the Train the Trainer courses have offered excellent feedback and will be using the materials in their work place.
Moving on Planning Ahead is funded by the Financial Services Authority.
