The aim of the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) Audit Tool project was to develop a series of audit tools which allow organisations and staff to quickly demonstrate their knowledge of the MCA and identify possible gaps.
The MCA Audit Tool will show when staff have completed and understood their MCA training. It will provide suggestions for local leads, how to make referrals on Deprivation of Liberties, with a checklist to show that the right protocols have been followed. This can be used to check that the right steps have been taken, the right processes are in place and that the staff know the basics.
The tool is aimed at the following groups of people:
- frontline staff
- managers at a unit level
- individuals within a larger organisation who have the lead responsibility for the MCA (for example – The Head of Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults)
This project is part of a wider project all related to the Mental Capacity Act, understanding it and its implementation throughout the social care sector.
ARC would like the MCA Audit Tool to be used by frontline staff, managers and individuals in charge of MCA referrals. It is our aim that these people will be properly trained on how implementing the MCA will affect their work on a daily basis.
The MCA Audit Tool project is funded by SCIE
