Empowerment Projects
Valuing People Now states that people with a learning disability are vulnerable to breaches of their human rights.
ARC's Empowerment projects aim to equip people with a learning disability with the knowledge and skills to be involved in decision-making, influence policy, express what they need and be less at risk from harm.
We are currently involved in a range of empowerment-related projects, which are outlined below, visit the individual project pages for more detailed information on each project.
This three-year project is funded by the Department of Health and the main goals of the project are; to raise awareness of human rights issues, train people with a learning disability to become trainers and increase knowledge of human rights amongst people with a learning disability and their supporters. This project follows directly on from
Calling the Shots. This ARC Scotland project is a network of 60 people with a learning disability and their support workers working on involvement. They have written a
Charter for Involvement and run presentations to Chief Executives.
This ARC Scotland project is to help people with learning disabilities to become true citizens by helping them to influence community planning and have more control over their support services.
This three-year Department of Health funded project aims to prevent the abuse of people with learning disabilities by their friends. The project will be dealing with issues around
mate crime. This project will create awareness of this abuse for people with a learning disability, carers, professionals and the wider community.
