Black and Minority or Ethnicity Projects
The Black and Minority Ethnicity Unit at ARC has an important role in ensuring that services, information and support delivered to people with learning disabilities within the UK reflects their culturally diverse requirements and the communities in which they live. In addition to the projects detailed below, the unit offers publications, consultancy and training in the delivery of culturally competent services.
We are currently involved in a range of projects related to BME issues, visit the individual project pages for more information.
This is a three-year project in association with BILD and Mencap and funded by the Department of Communities and Local Government (DCLG). The project is mainly about tackling race inequalities and will support and stimulate people from BME and local communities to get involved in local decisions especially those Learning Disability related.
This is a BME project designed to provide young people with learning disabilities information about transition into adulthood, covering areas such as education, health, finances, benefits and leisure. ARC is working in partnership with TIN (Transition Information Network) to deliver transition programmes.
This project created a network to encourage the sharing of good practice, inform policy by gathering responses, provide information, the opportunity for discussion and to share training resources within BME communities. So far the network has 1500 members and is growing all the time. We send out newsletters three times a year and host an annual conference.
This project works with third sector BME organisations supporting people with learning disabilities to access and benefit from high quality training. We are developing protocols for trainers, training developers and third sector organisations to ensure all are providing the best possible outcomes for Black Voluntary Organisations.
