Star Units

Star Units Banner

Star Units seek to identify and recognise exceptional performance in candidates completing their vocational, competence-based qualifications – that is, to build upon the current NVQ or SVQ competence model and differentiate between those candidates who are competent and those who naturally go the extra mile and deliver higher standards and quality in the workplace having been given the same specification of work – probably the top 5-10% of candidates.

Star Units do not increase the quantity of work candidates complete, or the quantity of assessments carried out. Star Units are not extra credits that candidates can achieve towards their N/SVQ.

The key is naturally occurring evidence – Star Units are recognition of the work candidates are already doing.

In essence, Star Units seek to challenge the concept that competent is the ceiling of achievement for candidates completing N/SVQs.

Star Units show candidates for the first time, what ‘exceptional’ looks like, and sets the standard for where ‘exceptional’ lies, encouraging those candidates to strive for better things.
