Why train with ARC?
ARC Training Services (ATS), formally the ARC Training Consortium, is one of the largest assessment centres for the Care Sector in the UK. We specialise in supporting providers of Learning Disability Services. Based at ARC’s head office in Chesterfield, we offer our NVQ and Training Services, throughout England and Wales. ARC Northern Ireland and ARC Scotland offer Training Services tailored to their cultural and legislative needs.
The ARC Training Consortium was set up in 1992 to support members who wanted to increase their own NVQ Assessor/Verifier capacity and to enable their staff to gain the appropriate NVQs.
We recently rebranded as ARC Training Services (ATS), to reflect on the wider range of training qualifications and courses that we now offer.
We are an approved NVQ Centre with City & Guilds. Our emphasis has always been on helping to produce work based assessors as our members believe that this represents best practice by ensuring confidentiality and privacy for service users. However, times change, and as more people are being supported to take control of their own budgets, and live more independently, a flexible approach to assessment is required. All of our Assessors and Verifiers, whether work based or peripatetic, have experience in working with people who have learning disabilities. Find out more about our Learning and Development Awards
ARC is forward thinking, monitoring trends then developing new materials and offering new qualifications to meet them. This ensures our portfolio offers the latest, most current awards, qualifications and knowledge for Learning Disability Services, and Social Care settings. See all the awards we offer.

ARC Training Services' approach to providing NVQs has been different from that of many other centres: we have not offered peripatetic assessment in the past, as we felt it was best practice to support organisations to build capacity around their own Assessors and Internal Verifiers. Whilst this promotes assessment in the workplace by people who are known to, and familiar with, the service users, peripatetic assessment is now proving to be a good alternative, especially where many organisations have reached a point where their workforce is mainly qualified, or where people are moving towards individualised budgets.
Organisations not wanting to become a centre, can use ARC Training Services to provide the administration, quality assurance and support necessary to enable their own Assessors and Internal Verifiers to operate 'on site'. Alternatively, we can now provide peripatetic assessment and verification to meet their needs. Find out more about workplace visits.
Training Products and Services
ARC also provides a range of quality training packages and courses on topics related to working in the learning disability sector and social care. We are developing new courses and training packs all the time and these are often closely related to units within the NVQs and other awards that we offer. We also produce many publications on a variety of topics for both trainees and trainers, more information on ARC publications.
