Cornwall Branch Meeting: Tuesday 16 September 2008

Event: Cornwall Branch Meeting - Tuesday 16 September 2008

Date: 16-9-08

"Forget Me Not!"

Will Social Care fall off the agenda under the new inspection regime?

PLUS: Hate Crime, forging partnerships with the Police in Cornwall.

Tuesday 16 September 2008

9:30am - 12:30pm

Trethorne Leisure Park,
Kennards House, Launceston, Cornwall PL15 8QE
01566 86324

The future of inspection - 2009 will see the end of CSCI and the first steps of the Care Quality Commission. Many fears have been expressed that Social Care will not be a priority under the new arrangements and that an inspection regime based on a 'health model' will undermine what we have been tyring to achieve. In the meantime CSCI has been cut to the bone and trying to get hold of an inspector can prove a fruitless task. CSCI's Regulation Manager for the South West, John McEachern, will be at the meeting. Can he set our minds at rest?

Crime & Learning Disability - Cornwall has been in the news a lot recently over the issue of hate crime and the criminal justice system has often been found wanting. Whether as victims, witnesses or perpetrators people with learning disabilities have historically received a raw deal. The Diversity Officer for North Cornwall Police will be with us. What are the police doing to improve fairness and justice? And what can we do to support them?

PLUS all the usual news, views, issues and inside information.
AND all the latest training and funding opportunities.

Members and non-members are welcome.
Attendance is £6.00 per person including refreshments.
Lunch is not provided but there's a cafe on site.
